Hi
I feel that I know the answer to this but would like to confirm this.
As you maybe aware MyLaps (formally AMBrc) have just release a new Transponder and at the same time Firmware for our decoder. This new software is refered to as RC4 (RC3 is the old version).
There are Issues with RC4 firmware and these new transponders: The New (Purcy) Transponders will ONLY work with RC4 firmware. If we upgrade to RC4 MRT transponders do not work.
Basically can people please advise if they run MRT's. bbk are offering a trade in (for Harry or Purcy) for a price. They also do deals on bulk trade in so if there are enough people this maybe an option.
Harry Transponders will work with either version.
As a club at present we will NOT be upgrading the firmware on our decoder.
However all need to be aware of this as if a Club you visit (or the Nationals - BRCA have not commented on this yet!) has updated then MRT's will not be supported.
Please note Chippingham have not updated there firmware, so all will still work there.
As a start I run MRT......but if some of the national/BTCC tracks even think about updating firmware I will trade in for a Harry (More expensive than a Purcy but it will work with all configurations).

Sorry should of made that clearer.
Harry and Purcy are the model names that MyLaps (AMBrc) have given the 2 latest models of transponder.
If you have a MyLaps transponder and it works at the club then it is a Harry generation.

After reading Stuart's post in Announcement's I've got a question. What the hell is Harry and Purcy?!? They're transponders. Purcy, it's official title being MYLAPS Pure RC4 pt is a new (smaller) transponder that works on the new, improved, RC4 lap counting software - you can tell the pt apart from pervious mylaps transponders because it has 3 wires. Harry is a new 'hybrid' transponder (smaller than the 'old' red rectangular Amb PT's you're familiar with (with the lugs)). Harry will work with all earlier lap counting software (like the one at DMCRC) and also the new RC4 software (slowly being introduced at clubs around the country), hence It's title MYLAPS RC4 Hybrid pt The small black MRT pt (popular because it was cheaper than Amb pt's) will continue to work with the type of software being run at DMCRC but will not work with the latest RC4 software - so if you are travelling around the UK racing, it'll be worth checking what lap counting software is being run before travelling. A number of entry forms are starting to alert entrants to the fact that they are running RC4 software. BBK Software who are the distributors for MYLAPS PT's are currently offering a part exchange deal where you can exchange your old Amb or MRT pt for a Purcy or Harry pt and £42. I part ex'd my knackered MRT (broken wire) for a Harry 2 weeks ago and the process worked well by mail order. However, if you currently have a non Amb/Mylaps pt and it works at DMCRC it will continue to work there until the committee decide to update their lap counting software and I'm sure they'll communicate any intention to do so, well in advance. Worth noting and checking though, if you race further afield. Hope this helps.

The only club currently that seems to be upgrading is silverstone, but every other club that I know of have said they won't upgrade unless required to by nationals (herts, slough etc).
Im sure it won't be long till mrt work out the issues but until then most clubs are ok. But on trade ins purcys are £35 trade in and harrys are £42 trade in. I've looked at this already as bransgore has a lot of the old ones we need to trade in.

Topics Merged
The main reason for me posting it now is that from the way I read some of the posts from BRCA Touring Committee members on facebook it looks like the Exec comitte is going to say RC4......
Also if people have MRT's then bbk do a reduce cost if you trade in 10 or more so if people feel the need to changelike myself (need the assurance it will work wherever I go regardless of checking software) then people can combine and at least save a bit of money.

I have at least 1 (possibly 2) I will need to trade in. What is the reduced cost for 10+? The only thing is I want to go for the 'harry' style as it works with RC3 & 4 versions.

Will the orginal AMB pt's still work with the new software then?

Looking on BBK's website and the test they did at the rugracers meeting both the original AMB Handout & AMB PT's will still work with any decoder (ie RC2 RC3 or RC4)
Only the MRT's seem not to work.

Will the orginal AMB pt's still work with the new software then? Yes according to the FAQ's on the BBK web site www.bbksoftware.com/This is one of their responses - The RC4 Decoder will detect ALL AMB and Mylaps RC Transponders.

I am thinking of getting my own PT, which would be th best one to go for, and where is the best place to buy them? (does the club get a discount anywhere?)

Only my opinion though! I'm sure others will chime in with their view Paul I will chime in but would say your suggestion is what I would go with as well.
